My goal as a guide with Brevet is to share with our guests the winding roads and the gorgeous scenery I ride every week.
After having worked for the United Nations in Africa and South-East Asia for the last ten years, I wanted to take a break and be back in Switzerland to ride the Alps. My goal as a guide with Brevet is to share with our guests the winding roads and the gorgeous scenery I ride every week. I hope they will come back to discover other fantastic and challenging climbs in the Swiss Alps.

Favourite Swiss Climb:

The Passo San Gottardo. Riding on the cobblestones on a cloudy Sunday morning in the Granfondo San Gottardo, later meeting a few cows and their farmer in the middle of the road while you are entering the fog close to the top makes this climb an iconic Swiss ride I fell in love with recently.

Favourite Brevet Holiday:

Maratona del Dolomiti – this is where you can experience true Italian hospitality with delicious food and wine combined with exceptional rides in the stunning Italian Alps. A plus is that you will never ride alone in the Dolomiti. It is full of friendly and chatty cyclists from all over the world.

I also love the Cyclotour du Léman week – a friendly and fun early season event. Riding around the lake is a great challenge to make your legs spin and build a solid base for the coming summer. Also, being based in the Alps during the Brevet week, you will ride climbs such as Col des Mosses or the Col de la Croix which are classic climbs of the Tour de Romandie.

Favourite Moment on a Brevet Holiday:

Sipping an expresso at the top of a climb with the guests is my favorite part of the day during a Brevet week. When it is a sunny and blue-sky day, I like to relax on a terrace of a café, expresso in hand and sharing tales.

Favourite Swiss Meal and Wine Choice:

Rösti with bacon and eggs on top and a heavy red wine, Humagne Rouge by Chai du Baron, Valais.

Dream Bike Ride:

Alto de Letras, a 80km climb in Colombia with over 3,033m of climbing in total!

Personal Goals for 2014:

My goal for 2014 is to ride at least 6000km, to climb the Sustenpass, Grimselpass and the Stelvio, and to achieve a quicker time at the Granfondo San Gottardo.

This photo is classic Raphaël. He’s climbing the Passo Pordoi in Italy, leading a group of guests through stunning Dolomiti scenery. With his face buzzing from the sheer delight of riding in such beautiful mountains he’s jumped off the front to give me an update. He’s just 100% motivated by ensuring that everyone is having a great time.

You’ll enjoy riding with Rapha a lot. He has a passion for good coffee, good food and riding in all conditions. Ask him about his time working for the UN in Africa and you’ll see why we prize his logistical brilliance so much!
